Women’s Behavioral Health Services
Both pre and postnatally, a substantial proportion of women receiving services at Prentice Women’s Hospital will experience behavioral health and mood issues. These women often lack referrals and resources for the treatment of their symptoms. The Women’s Behavioral Health Services program, in the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, looks to meet this need by offering choice, convenience, and experience for women with confidential behavioral health and mood issues.
Services
The Women’s Program offers an array of services including comprehensive behavioral evaluations to identify health conditions, individual pre-pregnancy counseling on psychotropic medications, pharmacotherapy and individual psychotherapy for women who are pregnant or in postpartum.

This document outlines the main elements of the Illinois State Mandate for Detection of Perinatal Mental Health Disorders. To comply with this mandate, the Prentice Leadership committee, as well as the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, recommend that all MD offices, including PAC, NMFF and NMPG, screen patients for depression at the first prenatal visit, in the third trimester (28-32 weeks prenatally) and again postnatally (6-8 week visit) using the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire. Referrals can be made to clinics in the community and to our clinic at 312-695-5060.
