Affective Science and Treatment Laboratory

The Affective Science and Treatment lab is focused on identifying novel bio-behavioral mechanisms of treatment response for depression and perinatal depression, tracking change and deficits in emotion and motivation in women across the lifespan, and testing predictors and mechanisms of successful response to Behavioral Activation treatment for depression.

Current Research

  1. Track substrates of emotion in women from pregnancy to postpartum.

  2. Detect the neural bases of emotion and neurocognition in women across the lifespan.

  3. Identify bio-behavioral substrates of emotion and affective learning in depression and anxiety.

  4. Testing mechanisms and predictors of Behavioral Activation.

  5. Installing Behavioral Activation Communication, a novel milieu approach, into acute inpatient psychiatric units (now used at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and other US medical centers).

Our Facilities

Housed in the Asher Center for the Study and Treatment of Depression, 676 North St. Clair Street, Suite 1000, Chicago, Illinois, our lab has space for structured interviewing, neurocognitive testing, implicit stimulus presentations, and data analyses for neuroimaging data (SPM) and psychophysiological protocols.
