Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

Our Child & Adolescent Psychiatry specialists are based at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Lurie Children's is a state-of-the-art tertiary care hospital that opened in 2012 with more than 1,100 pediatric specialists in more than 70 specialties. The hospital has also served as the pediatric training ground for Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine for more than 60 years. Our faculty specializing in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry are an integral part of the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Northwestern University. Students working with our division have a unique opportunity to learn from our wide depth and breadth of faculty, some of whom are national experts in the field.

About Our Division

 Education

We offer fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry (through Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago), internships for pre- and postdoctoral students in psychology and internships for social work and recreational therapy. Medical students from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine rotate on our inpatient unit and consultation-liaison service, and we offer fourth-year medical students electives in the partial hospitalization program. General Psychiatry Residents also rotate on our consultation-liaison service for their child psychiatry experience.

Faculty and staff in psychiatry, neurology, psychology, nursing, social work, special education, recreation therapy and speech and language pathology contribute to a multidisciplinary learning experience in both didactic and clinical settings.

 Research

Our division members are dedicated to research and the further development of our field. Our multidisciplinary team of physician-scientists conduct various research projects to help promote patient care and better educate families. We hope our research efforts will improve treatment for children who require psychiatric and psychological services. Opportunities are available to students and residents for supervised research.

 Patient Care

The Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago's Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry offers mental health services for children, adolescents and their families of all socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. Children and adolescents are treated in our outpatient, inpatient and partial-hospitalization settings.
