Medical Students

Our faculty members, residents and fellows are committed to teaching and mentoring medical students. We aim to provide all students with a strong foundation of core knowledge in psychiatry and to reduce stigma about mental illness. Regardless of their ultimate area of practice, we want all Feinberg graduates to be able to identify common psychiatric illnesses, understand principles of psychiatric treatment and use basic psychiatric interview techniques with skill.

The Psychiatry module builds on the Neuroscience module in the Phase 1 curriculum to teach students the principles of psychiatric diagnosis and treatment. The Psychiatry Clerkship is a required third-year core rotation for all medical students. Students interested in a career in psychiatry complete an additional one-month clinical rotation during their fourth year in inpatient psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry or emergency psychiatry. Faculty members mentor medical students in psychiatric research through the Area of Scholarly Concentration (AOSC) project.
